Elizabethan Wall Paintings Room

A Must- See Visitor’s Attraction

THE MERCHANT’S NEW CLOTHES

Our Elizabethan merchant has had a make-over, thanks to our talented volunteer, Linda Simon. Over several months, Linda has painstakingly researched, sourced and sewn this beautiful outfit. Now you can see the merchant in all his glory when you visit the Elizabethan Room in the Museum. Officially opened on 16th September 2018, the refurbished Wall Paintings Room continues to welcome visitors.

See this family room belonging to an Elizabethan merchant from Thame come to life before your eyes. Hear authentic music and listen to the voice of the man who we believe, owned the house in which the paintings were found. It is a unique experience which has taken over three years to develop.

Thanks to a lot of hard work from the museum team and funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, we are now able to give a glimpse of life from 400 years ago using the latest 21st century technology.
