During World War II Briggens House, an 18th century mansion in Roydon, was requisitioned by the MOD and used for training the Polish army in exile. Becoming Section XVI of the Special Operations Executive, the unit produced forged documents needed by agents working in Europe as well as bank notes, stamps and other propaganda materials.
Join Charles Pither who has carried out extensive research of Briggens House, to reveal the activities of this fascinating but little-known operation.
These activities have been further captured by Charles in an historical novel, Ipseity. It is populated with real life characters, and situations the brilliant team at Briggens would have encountered, so his talk will include a couple of readings to enhance the sense of place.

Charles’ book will be available to purchase at the talk.

Charles Pither is a renowned physician and author. After a successful career as a specialist in pain management, spanning over three decades, he retired to focus on his creative pursuits.
During his medical career, Charles published numerous research papers and contributed to textbooks and monographs. However, his passion for writing remained a constant companion. He continued to write creatively, producing poetry, humor, essays, short stories, and even a novel.
Having retired from clinical medicine he has been able to concentrate more on his writing with a regular travel blog and a recently completed second novel.
Charles lives near Oxford in an old farmhouse on a windy hill.
