A Weekend to Remember 4th-6th October 2024

Hosted by the Museum, fans enjoyed three wonderful evening events plus an extended and re-imagined Robin Gibb exhibition, which also included some of Dwina Gibb’s own artwork.

The weekend kicked off with a welcome reception and Wine tasting at the Museum

There were three wines to taste all with a Bee Gees’ theme and from locations associated with the iconic musicians – sumptuous fizz from Australia, plus British and USA wines. All set to a Bee Gees playlist selected by the fans. Our Chairman Adrian welcomed everyone, the Mayor, Andy Gilbert then opened the proceedings. Brian Holt from Thame Players hosted the event and talked us through the tastings, with some very mouth-watering and amusing descriptions.

The Highlight of the Weekend

On Saturday evening 100 people came to St Mary’s to enjoy an amazing candlelit concert of poetry, prose and music. Dwina Gibb enthralled the audience with her readings of some of Robin’s hitherto unpublished poetry, and entertained us with some Irish tales, wonderful anecdotes, and heart-warming stories of her life, including special memories of Robin and the family.

Becki Luff, the renowned harpist, accompanied some of the pieces with a repertoire of beautiful, evocative music, including a selection of Bee Gees music.

On Saturday morning, BBC South film crew arrived to film the exhibition and interview some of the fans. The film was then broadcast on the early evening news.

We were also treated to a surprise at the Prebendal, when Robin Gibb Jr – “RJ” drove out in his father’s Rolls Royce Corniche. Both Dwina and RJ took time out with the delighted fans – a fantastic way to spend the afternoon.

The weekend ended with a special screening of Saturday Night Fever. at the Players Theatre, where the fans were welcomed by Ken Bruce MBE, renowned radio & television presenter.. Fans were transported back to the 1970s as John Travolta strutted his stuff to the gorgeous Bee Gees soundtrack.

All too soon the weekend came to an end. Everyone had a wonderful time and looking forward to next year. Watch this space!
