Object of the Month – April 2022

Smocks were a protective garment worn over clothes by countrymen in England and Wales during the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries

The smocking was decorative but also helped to give the garment elasticity and allow freedom of movement.

This style is called a round-frock, where the front and back are identical with a small new opening.  The smock is full length with long sleeve and button cuffs a collar and embroidery and smocking front and back.
