Exhibition to honour an extraordinary man opening in the main gallery

John Henry Smythe, QC, MBE, OBE was a hero of the Second World War, one of only 60 West Africans to serve in the RAF. He was one of the first black barristers in England; an Attorney General for Sierra Leone, and a pivotal figure in the WIndrush Generation. He spent his last years in Thame and is buried in St. Mary’s churchyard.
The opening of this exhibition is particularly apt in Black History month. Discover the amazing life of this extraordinary man, through film, display of mementos and other artifacts, which reflect his connection with key events in 20th century history, including his significant contribution to the Windrush Story.
